Agadir, October 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco’s national airline, and the Senegalese holy city of Touba have renewed their partnership to facilitate travel for members of the Mouride Muslim brotherhood, particularly during major religious gatherings, including the annual Grand Magal of Touba.
The agreement was signed in Touba on Thursday by the city’s Mayor, Abdou Lahad Kâ, and Royal Air Maroc Commercial Director Ilham Kazzini. The ceremony was also attended by Noura Daoudi, the airline’s Commercial Director for Africa, and Mounim Elkababi, its Regional Director in Senegal.
The renewed partnership aims to address the travel needs of Mouride followers, particularly members of the Senegalese diaspora who return to their homeland to participate in religious celebrations and gatherings in Touba.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Kazzini said the partnership reflected the close relationship Royal Air Maroc had established with the Mouride brotherhood, its religious leaders and followers in Senegal and abroad.
She highlighted the airline’s international network as an important link connecting Senegalese communities living overseas with their home country, particularly during major religious occasions that attract large numbers of pilgrims.
The agreement comes ahead of the next Grand Magal of Touba, one of Senegal’s largest annual religious gatherings. The event draws worshippers from across Senegal and the Senegalese diaspora, generating substantial demand for air travel.
Touba is the spiritual centre of the Mouride brotherhood, one of Senegal’s most influential Sufi Muslim communities. The Grand Magal commemorates the exile of the brotherhood’s founder, Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba, and attracts thousands of pilgrims each year.
The renewed partnership coincides with Royal Air Maroc’s broader strategy to expand and modernise its fleet, strengthen its international passenger network and enhance the overall travel experience.
On October 7, the airline announced plans to equip 41 aircraft with Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi services beginning in early 2027. The service is expected to provide free internet access to members of its Safar Flyer loyalty programme, enabling passengers to communicate, work and stream content during flights.
Royal Air Maroc is also upgrading its long-haul fleet. Earlier in October, the airline and Boeing signed an agreement to refurbish the cabins of seven Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. The upgrades will include next-generation seats and enhanced in-flight entertainment systems.
Through its renewed partnership with Touba, Royal Air Maroc seeks to strengthen its ties with Senegalese religious communities while facilitating travel for worshippers attending important religious events.
