Islamabad, October 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated that Pakistan’s position on Jammu and Kashmir remains clear, consistent and principled, emphasizing that lasting peace and stability in South Asia cannot be achieved without a just and peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
In his message on Jammu and Kashmir Black Day, observed annually on October 27, the prime minister reaffirmed the unwavering solidarity of the government and people of Pakistan with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
“On this Jammu & Kashmir Black Day, the Government and people of Pakistan reaffirm their unwavering solidarity with the people of IIOJK,” he said.
According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan would continue to extend its moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people and advocate for their legitimate rights at every national and international forum.
Recalling the events of October 27, 1947, the prime minister said that the landing of Indian forces in Srinagar marked the beginning of a tragic chapter in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, whose consequences continued to affect the region.
He observed that, since then, the people of Jammu and Kashmir had been denied the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination, as affirmed in the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The prime minister said the people of IIOJK had endured immense hardship, suffering and repression. However, their courage, resilience and unwavering determination to secure their fundamental rights remained undiminished.
He added that the sacrifices made by successive generations of Kashmiris were a powerful testament to their enduring commitment to freedom, dignity and justice.
Expressing concern over the situation in the occupied territory, Shehbaz Sharif said India had continued efforts to suppress legitimate political expression and silence voices representing the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He described the prolonged incarceration of Kashmiri political leaders, activists and human rights defenders as deeply concerning, stressing the need for due process, respect for fundamental liberties and greater international attention to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The prime minister further noted that, since August 5, 2019, India had introduced a series of unilateral measures in IIOJK, accompanied by extensive restrictions on fundamental freedoms. These measures, he said, had affected the political, legal and demographic character of the territory and attracted serious international attention.
“Pakistan has consistently called for these developments to be addressed in accordance with international law and the applicable United Nations Security Council resolutions,” he emphasized.
On the solemn occasion, the prime minister paid tribute to the countless Kashmiri men, women and children who had made immense sacrifices in pursuit of their rights, saying their sacrifices and memory would always be honoured.
He maintained that the aspirations of the Kashmiri people could not be extinguished through coercion or repression.
Shehbaz Sharif prayed for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to attain a future marked by lasting peace, dignity and security, and for the fulfillment of their aspirations, including their right to self-determination.
