Auckland, August 10, 2024, The Europe Today: A seminar on “China Books Overseas Distribution and Copyright Cooperation” was held on Friday in Auckland, bringing together key players from China and New Zealand’s publishing industries. The event was organized by the China International Book Trading Corporation (CIBTC) in collaboration with Prime Media Group of New Zealand, with the goal of enhancing cooperation and exchanges between the two nations in the publishing sector.
New Zealand’s Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Paul Goldsmith, emphasized the importance of the friendship between New Zealand and China, expressing optimism about further deepening bilateral relations. “New Zealand is well known for its creative industries. The connections between our two countries present enormous potential opportunities in trade, books, and many other creative sectors,” Goldsmith stated.
Chen Shijie, the Chinese Consul-General in Auckland, highlighted the rapid growth of China’s publishing industry, particularly in online literature and digital publishing, which have driven significant development in the sector. “Publications introducing China have been widely attracting overseas readers, promoting overseas copyright cooperation and cultural exchanges,” Chen noted.
Chen also pointed to the strong momentum in publishing industry cooperation between China and New Zealand, noting that the two countries have established mechanisms for collaboration in exhibitions, digital library cooperation, the protection of ancient books, and resource sharing.
During the seminar, representatives from both Chinese and New Zealand publishing industries engaged in discussions on how to further explore and expand cooperation opportunities, underscoring the shared commitment to fostering cultural and intellectual exchanges between the two nations.
