China to Restrict Exports of Antimony and Superhard Materials from September 15

Beijing, August 15, 2024, The Europe Today: China will impose restrictions on the export of antimony (stibium) and superhard materials starting September 15, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and the General Administration of Customs announced on Thursday. According to the announcement, certain antimony-related products and superhard materials will require special permission for export.

The move, according to the MOC, is designed to safeguard national security and fulfill international obligations related to non-proliferation. The ministry emphasized that implementing export controls on these materials is in line with international practices and is not aimed at any specific country or region.

A spokesperson for the MOC clarified in an online statement that exports meeting the necessary regulations will still be approved. The Chinese government, the statement added, remains committed to maintaining global peace, ensuring the stability of international industrial and supply chains, and promoting regulated trade.

However, the government also stated its firm opposition to any use of these controlled items to engage in activities that threaten China’s national sovereignty, security, or development interests.
