Ohio, October 05, 2024 – The Europe Today: Kent State University hosted a grand celebration marking the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi, a renowned philosopher and poet of the East. The event was attended by a high-level delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Minister of Education Azat Atayev, who is on a working visit to the United States. The delegation aims to establish long-term partnerships with esteemed American universities. Turkmen students, US citizens, and Turkmen expatriates also participated in the event.
The opening ceremony featured a speech by Marcello Fantoni, Vice President for Global Education at Kent State University. The festivities included performances by faculty and students from the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction, showcasing traditional music and folklore. Additionally, Maya Tyuliyeva, founder and CEO of the “Kansas City” Music Academy, gave a piano performance. David Hassler, Executive Director of the “Bob and Walt Vick” Poetry Center, and teacher-magumgulived Durdy Ilmammedov also delivered speeches.
Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United States Meret Orazov and Deputy Minister of Education Azat Atayev spoke about the profound legacy of Magtymguly Fragi, emphasizing the philosophical depth of his poetry.
The event is part of a broader initiative under Turkmenistan’s “Strategy for International Cooperation of the Youth of Turkmenistan for 2023-2030,” which seeks to explore the establishment of foreign university branches within Turkmenistan’s educational institutions. The visit underscores Turkmenistan’s commitment to fostering educational ties with leading global universities.
