China and Vietnam Vow to Deepen Cooperation

Hanoi, October 14, 2024 – The Europe Today: China and Vietnam reaffirmed their commitment to resolving differences through friendly consultation and deepening bilateral cooperation during a meeting between Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Sunday.

Premier Li emphasized the importance of maintaining a cooperative spirit, urging both nations to handle differences amicably and further expand maritime collaboration. He reiterated China’s firm support for Vietnam’s path of development in line with its national conditions, highlighting the need to align China’s Belt and Road Initiative with Vietnam’s Two Corridors and One Economic Circle strategy.

“We stand ready to enhance our cooperation with Vietnam in key areas such as connectivity, trade, investment, tourism, and disaster management,” Premier Li said. He also called for deeper collaboration in emerging sectors, including the digital economy and green development, to promote modernization and elevate partnership across diverse fields.

Cultural exchanges and fostering mutual understanding, particularly among the younger generation, were also highlighted as critical to strengthening the long-standing ties between the two nations. Additionally, Premier Li pledged China’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Vietnam in multilateral platforms like the United Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), with a focus on fairer global governance.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that developing relations with China remains a top priority for Vietnam, describing it as a strategic choice for the nation’s government. He reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to the one-China principle and voiced support for China’s development.

As both countries approach the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, Prime Minister Pham stressed the importance of high-level exchanges, enhanced transportation infrastructure, and exploring new economic models like cross-border economic cooperation zones. He also called for stronger collaboration in education, tourism, and youth exchanges.

“The high-level consensus between our two parties and countries must be implemented. We are committed to managing our differences through friendly dialogue and working together to maintain maritime peace and stability,” Prime Minister Pham added.

The leaders agreed to issue a joint statement following Premier Li’s visit, further solidifying the cooperative framework between China and Vietnam.
