Strengthening Women’s Economic Future: FPCCI and CEO Naqash Foundation Delegation Engages with Governor Punjab to Advance Women Empowerment Initiatives

Lahore, October 20, 2024 – The Europe Today: The FPCCI Women Empowerment and Development Committee, under the leadership of Convener Maryyam Qasim Khan with Sana Umair, CEO Naqash, recently held a significant meeting with Governor Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the economic empowerment of women across the province. The delegation, organized to champion progress in women’s development, focused on various aspects of empowerment, exploring avenues to fortify women’s economic independence and drive social change.

Naqaash foundation while leading the delegation along with FPCCI and other delegates emphasized on the importance of economic empowerment of women. In the Maslow’s hierarchy the economic empowerment of women tops the list because when you empower women you automatically empower them socially, politically, legally and financially during the meeting the projects led by Naqaash were also discussed and an invitation to the governor was extended on behalf of the CEO for a conference on women empowerment along with the other delegates.

The session, organized by Zaildar Ahsan Shah, a distinguished member of the Pakistan People’s Party and Chairman International Relation Committee Islamabad High Court, brought together a diverse delegation comprising businesswomen, experts in women’s empowerment, educationists, and representatives from various organizations and NGOs.

During the meeting, several key topics were discussed, including the impact of economic initiatives on broader societal and legal empowerment for women. One notable aspect was the introduction of an innovative application developed by Microfinance Bank. This app is designed to help women claim their legal inheritance rights and offers tools to strengthen their economic status. The delegation acknowledged the role of such tech-driven solutions in creating sustainable economic growth for women.

Zaildar Ahsan Shah commenced the meeting with a warm welcome note, expressing gratitude to Governor Punjab for taking the time to engage with the delegation. He highlighted the importance of such interactions, underscoring the representation of different organizations and experts committed to championing women’s empowerment across various sectors. Zaildar Ahsan Shah paid tribute to the legacy of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, emphasizing her exemplary role as a beacon of hope and empowerment for women in Pakistan. He remarked on how her achievements continue to inspire countless women across the country, and that having a governor from the Pakistan People’s Party at the helm in Punjab is a positive indication for advancing the cause of women’s empowerment.

Zaildar Ahsan Shah further shared that under the leadership of a governor aligned with Benazir Bhutto’s values, there is renewed hope for significant strides in this area. He also highlighted the potential for meaningful initiatives under the supports of the Governor House, which can have a province-wide impact. The governor’s presence and support for women’s causes were seen as a critical endorsement, encouraging the delegation to lead and execute upcoming initiatives effectively.

During the meeting, Zaildar Ahsan Shah invited Sana Umair, CEO of Naqash, to share insights on the organization’s efforts and general thoughts on women’s empowerment. Sana Umair, founder of the Naqash Foundation, emphasized the critical link between economic empowerment and overall social progress. She stated, “When you empower women economically, you automatically empower them socially, financially, legally, and politically.” Sana underscored the importance of comprehensive approaches to women’s empowerment, where economic stability serves as the foundation for broader societal change. Sana Umair spoke about the role Naqash has played in promoting economic independence for women, and the various projects that support this vision. She also stressed the importance of continuing to build awareness, conduct seminars, and organize training programs to equip women with essential skills for financial independence.

Maryam Khan, Convener of the Women Empowerment Committee at the FPCCI proposed strategic recommendations to boost women’s participation in various sectors, emphasizing economic empowerment and policy reform. She called for tax incentives for businesses sourcing from female entrepreneurs. Maryam Khan suggested adding the Benazir Income Support Program’s focus to skill development, promoting self-reliance over mere financial aid. She envisioned spaces for artisans at Gaddafi Stadium and in the Golden Triangle economic zone to showcase women’s crafts, alongside government-provided tech to enhance productivity. Addressing bureaucratic hurdles, she urged smoother trade facilitation for women entrepreneurs, highlighting regional trade with South Asian neighbors as a means to expand exports. Her vision emphasized inclusive growth, economic diplomacy, and strategic support to transform the economic landscape for women in Pakistan.

The delegation comprised prominent figures including Nida Jaffery, Ayesha Norani, Shahena Cheema, Aliya Munawar Khan, Mishqat Amir, Shakila Bano, Anum Mir, Sehrish Waqas, Shomaila, Ayesha Aman, Tauqeer Fatima, Naveeda Shahzad, Falahat, Ayesha Farouqi, Syeda Maleha Iqbal, Asifa Nabeel, Sue Jeong, Barsila John, Rabia Dar, Sharena Safdar Janjua, Zammurad Safdar Janjua, and Azka Munir. Each member contributed to the discussion by sharing their expertise on enhancing women’s empowerment across various spheres. They talked about strategies to address the existing challenges and proposed actionable solutions, including the establishment of women’s economic zones, integrating tech-driven solutions, and utilizing the Benazir Income Support Fund for skill development and entrepreneurial training.

Governor Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, concluded the session by welcoming the delegation’s efforts and reiterating the unwavering support of the Governor House. He echoed Zaildar’s Ahsan Shah Sentiments on the legacy of Benazir Bhutto, acknowledging her pivotal role in strengthening the Pakistan People’s Party and the nation at large. The Governor underlined the irreplaceable contributions of women in society, stating that neither homes nor societies can thrive without their presence. He assured the delegation that the doors of the Governor House would always be open for such progressive initiatives.

Sana Omair graciously extended a heartfelt invitation on the behalf of all delegates collaborative partners to the Governor of Punjab, encouraging him to attend an important conference at Punjab University in Lahore. In her invitation, she expressed her genuine enthusiasm for the Governor’s participation, emphasizing that his presence would not only enrich the discussions but also inspire attendees to engage more deeply with the topics at hand.

Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan encouraged the delegation to submit their recommendations and advice in writing, promising that any feasible proposals within the jurisdiction of the Governor House would be acted upon promptly. For matters beyond their direct control, the Governor assured them that these recommendations would be forwarded to the Government of Punjab for consideration.
