Belarus and Malaysia Explore Opportunities for Enhanced Economic Cooperation

Minsk, March 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: Belarus and Malaysia have significant potential to expand bilateral cooperation, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Mikhail Myatlikov stated during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Russia Loon Lai Cheong, who holds concurrent accreditation in Belarus. The discussions focused on key areas of economic collaboration between the two nations, according to media reports.

Currently, Belarusian exports to Malaysia are dominated by potash fertilizers and dairy products, which together account for approximately 95% of total trade. However, Mikhail Myatlikov emphasized the opportunity for diversification in trade, including the exchange of goods and services, best practices, and technological cooperation. He highlighted the potential for collaboration in agriculture, medicine, and information technologies through the exchange of scientific knowledge and technological advancements.

“We attach great importance to our interaction with Malaysia. We would be pleased to host delegations of Malaysian business representatives in Belarus and propose arranging their visit during one of the international exhibitions scheduled to take place in Belarus in 2025,” Myatlikov said.

Additionally, Belarus submitted a proposal to the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to formalize economic cooperation through a bilateral agreement. The Malaysian ambassador welcomed the initiative, affirming Malaysia’s readiness to strengthen economic ties and suggesting the identification of specific areas of collaboration for businesses from both nations.

The meeting underscored the mutual commitment to fostering stronger economic and trade relations between Belarus and Malaysia, with both sides expressing interest in furthering cooperation across various sectors.
