Pakistan Observes Youm-e-Tashakur to Honour Armed Forces’ Response to Indian Aggression

Islamabad, May 11, 2025 — The Europe Today: Pakistan is observing Youm-e-Tashakur today, as declared by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to express national gratitude for the successful execution of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos and the armed forces’ resolute response to recent Indian aggression.

According to a statement issued by the Media Wing of the Prime Minister’s Office, the operation delivered a “strong and coordinated” military response that demonstrated Pakistan’s strategic and operational superiority across all fronts. Youm-e-Tashakur ceremonies are being held nationwide to offer thanks to Allah Almighty, honour the valour of the military personnel, and reaffirm national unity in the face of external threats.

In his official message, Prime Minister Sharif urged citizens, religious leaders, and communities across the country to hold collective Nawafil (voluntary prayers) and special supplications for the martyrs and veterans who participated in the military operation. He paid tribute to the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces and emphasized the unbreakable bond between the military and the nation, stating, “We will never forget the courage and sacrifices of our soldiers in defending the homeland.”

The current situation follows one of the most dangerous escalations between nuclear-armed Pakistan and India in recent years. Tensions reached a critical point after a deadly attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which resulted in the loss of 26 lives. India accused Pakistan-based elements of orchestrating the attack, though no evidence was presented. Islamabad categorically rejected the allegations.

In a retaliatory move, India closed the Wagah border crossing, revoked Pakistani visas, and announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty—a move Pakistan condemned as an “act of war.” Pakistan responded by sealing the Wagah crossing from its side.

The standoff escalated further on May 6–7, culminating in direct military exchanges that claimed dozens of lives in the most severe clash between the two nations in decades. Amid rising international concern, U.S. President Donald Trump intervened, announcing that both countries had agreed to an “immediate and full ceasefire.” Islamabad and New Delhi subsequently confirmed the agreement to halt all military activities.

Despite Islamabad’s repeated diplomatic warnings, India continued what Pakistani officials described as provocative military actions, including frequent drone incursions into Pakistani territory. The situation ultimately led to Pakistan’s military launching Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos to repel and neutralize the threat.

Today’s observance of Youm-e-Tashakur reflects both the Pakistani government’s and the public’s resolve to acknowledge the armed forces’ role in defending national sovereignty, while also renewing calls for regional peace and stability grounded in justice and mutual respect.
