Jakarta, May 12, 2025 — The Europe Today: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will undertake a state visit to Indonesia from May 14 to 15, according to a statement released Monday by Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat.
The visit, Albanese’s first to Indonesia since his reelection, will coincide with the annual bilateral leaders’ meeting and marks a reaffirmation of the growing strategic ties between the two countries.
“It will be Prime Minister Albanese’s first visit since his reelection and reflects the strategic relationship between our two countries,” Soemirat stated.
During the visit, Albanese is scheduled to meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to discuss the advancement of bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of food and energy security, trade, and broader economic cooperation. The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and global developments, along with shared priorities for both governments.
Soemirat emphasized that the visit underscores the depth of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and Australia.
As reported by media last week, Albanese confirmed his intent to visit Jakarta following the swearing-in of his new cabinet. “We have no more important relationship than Indonesia. We have an important economic relationship with them. They will grow to be the fourth-largest economy in the world,” Albanese stated.
In addition to economic ties, Albanese highlighted the significance of the defense and security partnership between the two nations, describing President Prabowo as “a good friend of mine on a personal level, as well as our countries being close.”
The visit is expected to further consolidate bilateral cooperation in key sectors and reaffirm the longstanding relationship between Australia and Indonesia.
