Addis Ababa, July 28 – 2025 – The Europe Today: Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed officially welcomed Italian Prime Minister and President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, at a ceremonial reception held today at the National Palace in Addis Ababa. The visit comes in advance of the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit, co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy from July 27 to 29, 2025.
During the high-level ceremony, senior officials from both governments signed a Joint Declaration on the Ethiopian–Italian Cooperation Framework, in the presence of both leaders. The declaration marks a renewed commitment to deepen diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations.
Speaking after the signing, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated, “Our longstanding partnership was further reinforced by the signing of a Joint Declaration on the Ethiopian–Italian Cooperation Framework.” He added that their bilateral talks addressed a wide range of both regional and international issues, highlighting shared priorities in development and cooperation.
The upcoming UN Food Systems Summit aims to mobilize global leaders, policy experts, and stakeholders to drive transformative action toward resilient and sustainable food systems. The presence of Prime Minister Meloni and Italy’s co-hosting role underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing food security and environmental sustainability.
The visit also reaffirms the historical ties between Ethiopia and Italy and signals a forward-looking agenda focused on mutual growth and global collaboration.
