Ankara, July 31, 2025 – The Europe Today: Türkiye’s National Security Council has issued a strong appeal to the international community to take urgent action against Israel’s expanding military operations across the Middle East, warning that the continuation of such aggression risks dragging the entire region into catastrophe.
In a statement released following a high-level meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday, the Council condemned Israel’s military activities, which it said now span from Gaza to Iran via Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. These operations, the statement emphasized, constitute blatant violations of international law and deliberate attempts to destabilize the region.
“The Israeli administration, through genocide in Gaza and by targeting Iran after years of aggression in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, seeks to plunge the region into disaster,” the statement read.
Calling for urgent international engagement, the Council urged the global community to “assume responsibility” and take swift measures to stop Israel’s actions.
Reaffirmation of Support for Syrian Sovereignty
The Council also reviewed ongoing developments in Syria, reiterating Türkiye’s firm support for initiatives aimed at ensuring Syria’s unity and lasting stability. It warned against renewed violence and external interventions designed to undermine the country’s sovereignty.
“Attacks and occupations targeting Syria’s territorial integrity, and all separatist, destructive, and divisive actions that could drive the country back into a spiral of chaos must be prevented,” the statement emphasized.
Progress Toward a Terror-Free Türkiye
On the domestic front, the Council noted continued progress toward achieving a “terror-free Türkiye.” It acknowledged the success of military and security operations against terrorist organizations, describing them as critical to strengthening national unity and advancing the country’s strategic goals.
“With the removal of the chains of terrorism, our nation’s solidarity will deepen, and steps toward our national objectives will accelerate in a more stable and determined manner,” the Council stated.
Concerns Over Escalation in Ukraine Conflict
The National Security Council also expressed concern over escalating tensions in the Russia-Ukraine war and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to contributing to efforts for a just and lasting peace in the region.
The meeting concluded with a call for responsible international leadership in the face of mounting global and regional instability.
