Paris, August 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in the transportation sector with France, encompassing land, sea, and air domains.
Speaking during a meeting with French Minister of Transportation Philippe Tabarot at the French Ministry of Transportation in Paris on July 29, Minister Purwagandhi noted that both nations are aligned in strengthening collaborative efforts and exchanging knowledge, technology, and corporate engagement. The meeting was held to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France.
The discussions followed up on key agreements reached during the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Jakarta on May 28–29, 2025, and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s attendance as guest of honor at the Bastille Day parade in Paris on July 14, 2025.
Minister Purwagandhi stated that this enhanced cooperation would reinforce bilateral ties and contribute to economic growth in both nations. “The partnership is also expected to deliver tangible benefits to the people and national economies, while opening new investment avenues for French companies in Indonesia,” he remarked.
A key highlight of the meeting was the agreement on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) development project in Bandung City, West Java. The French government expressed its readiness to support the project by financing a feasibility study and encouraging French companies’ involvement in Indonesia’s urban transport development.
“We welcome France’s support, particularly for the Bandung LRT project, which aims to address urban mobility and reduce congestion in the metropolitan area,” Minister Purwagandhi said.
The two countries also agreed to expand cooperation in maritime and civil aviation sectors, focusing on enhancing port capacity, maritime safety, and aviation technology exchange.
To institutionalize this partnership, a joint working group will be established to outline an action plan and identify priority projects.
French Minister Philippe Tabarot affirmed Indonesia’s position as a strategic partner, particularly in the area of sustainable and eco-friendly transport. He expressed confidence that the expertise of French companies would significantly contribute to meeting Indonesia’s transportation needs, beginning with the Bandung LRT initiative.
