Prabowo Vows Relentless War on Drugs, Calls Indonesia the ‘Killing Ground’ for Dealers

Jakarta, August 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has declared his determination to make Indonesia the “killing ground” and graveyard for drug dealers and networks, a senior security official revealed on Friday.

“As President Prabowo told Coordinating Minister (Budi Gunawan), he wants Indonesia to be the ‘killing ground’ for drug dealers and networks,” said Lt. Gen. Mochamad Hasan, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs.

To carry out the president’s directive, the ministry urged all elements of society to unite in the war against drugs without compromise. “We are facing them with the law and an undeterred spirit and will. Indonesia will never be conquered by drugs,” Hasan affirmed.

The Coordinating Ministry has established a Drug Eradication Coordination Desk, pooling efforts of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the military, police, state intelligence, local authorities, and community leaders. The desk’s priorities include intensifying raids on drug hotspots, cutting supply and financial networks through financial intelligence and cyber-surveillance, and enforcing harsher punishments for major traffickers.

Hasan stressed that eradicating drugs is not the sole responsibility of the BNN or police, but a national duty requiring unified orchestration of state powers. The desk has also expanded social rehabilitation programs for drug abuse victims and launched community-based campaigns in schools and workplaces.

Additionally, authorities are pursuing measures against public organisations linked to gangster activities that provide protection to drug syndicates.

As a result of these efforts, the Coordination Desk has seized 474 kilograms of narcotics from 21 cases involving 43 suspects in Java, Bali, and Sumatra. The BNN destroyed the confiscated drugs on Friday.

In a related development, the BNN announced the discovery of a new drug disguised as e-cigarette pods, after officers intercepted shipments from Malaysia and France.
