Sydney, December 14, 2025 – The Europe Today: At least 12 people were killed and dozens injured in a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday, Australian authorities confirmed, describing the incident as a terrorist attack targeting the Jewish community.
New South Wales (NSW) Premier Chris Minns told a news conference that 12 fatalities had been confirmed. NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said multiple shots were fired at Archer Park in the Bondi area, adding that 28 injured people were transported to various hospitals.
Lanyon officially declared the incident a “terrorist act,” while Premier Minns said the attack appeared to have been “designed to target the Jewish community.”
According to an NSW Police statement, a man believed to be one of the shooters was among those killed. A second suspected attacker remains in critical condition. The statement also confirmed that two police officers were wounded in the attack.
Police said several suspicious items were found in the vicinity and are being examined by specialist officers. An exclusion zone has been established, and an extensive crime scene remains in place.
“Inquiries are now underway, and there have been no reports of any other incidents in Sydney connected to this attack,” NSW Police said in a statement, adding that two individuals are currently in police custody at Bondi Beach. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area as the operation continues.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as “shocking and distressing” in a statement posted on social media platform X. “We are working with NSW Police and will provide further updates as more information is confirmed,” he said.
The Australian National Imams Council and the Council of Imams NSW also strongly condemned the shooting in a joint statement, saying that “these acts of violence and crimes have no place in our society.”
