Australia

Kupang, July 16, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is deploying four T-50i Golden Eagle fighter jets to Australia to participate in the multinational Pitch Black 2026 air combat exercise, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and enhancing joint operational capabilities with international partners.

El Tari Air Base Commander Air Marshal Somad said the fighter aircraft would depart from the Kupang transit point for Australia on Thursday as part of Indonesia’s participation in the biennial military exercise.

“The arrival of these fighter jets is part of the Pitch Black exercise in Australia. They will depart tomorrow,” Somad said on Wednesday.

In addition to the fighter aircraft, the Indonesian Air Force is deploying a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft to carry support personnel, equipment, and logistics required for the exercise.

According to the Australian government, Pitch Black 2026 will be held from July 20 to August 7, 2026, bringing together air forces from numerous partner nations for advanced multinational training.

Air Marshal Somad said Indonesia’s participation is intended to further strengthen bilateral defence relations, improve interoperability with allied and partner air forces, and enhance the operational readiness of its personnel.

He noted that Indonesian pilots will participate in advanced training activities, including complex aerial combat manoeuvres and joint tactical operations alongside military personnel from other participating countries.

Indonesia’s participation in Pitch Black 2026 reflects its continued commitment to expanding international defence cooperation, enhancing professional military capabilities, and contributing to regional security through multinational training and collaboration.
