Davos, January 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had accepted his invitation to join the “Board of Peace” initiative, aimed at resolving global conflicts. The announcement came during Trump’s meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos.
“He was invited. He’s accepted,” Trump told reporters, highlighting the potential role of the initiative in addressing global security challenges.
However, shortly after Trump’s remarks, President Putin clarified that the proposal was still under consideration. Speaking at a meeting of Russia’s Security Council, he noted that the Russian Foreign Ministry was reviewing the invitation and would provide a formal response in due course.
Putin indicated that the proposed Board of Peace appeared primarily focused on facilitating a Middle East peace settlement. He also stated that Russia was ready to contribute $1 billion toward the initiative, as proposed by Trump for long-term membership, using frozen Russian assets.
The announcement marks a notable development in international diplomatic engagements at the Davos forum, amid ongoing global efforts to promote conflict resolution and cooperation.
