European Parliament to Hold Early Vote on €90 Billion EU Loan for Ukraine

Ukraine

Brussels, February 10, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, announced on Monday that the Parliament will vote on Wednesday on a proposed €90 billion European Union loan aimed at supporting Ukraine’s war effort.

The vote, originally scheduled for later this month, has been brought forward following agreement among the Parliament’s main political groups, according to media reports. Parliament spokesperson Delphine Colard said ahead of the opening of the plenary session that there was consensus among the political groups to fast-track the decision.

The center-right European People’s Party, the center-left Socialists and Democrats, and the liberal Renew Europe group have all agreed to accelerate the voting process. Their backing will allow the European Commission to raise funds on international debt markets, supported by the EU’s long-term budget. The proposed measures include amendments to the EU budget as well as changes to an existing funding mechanism for Ukraine, all of which are expected to secure the required majority for approval.

EU officials have warned that without the approval of the loan, Ukraine risked running out of funds by April, a scenario that could have severely undermined its military and economic capacity amid ongoing United States-brokered peace efforts.

The vote had previously been planned for a special plenary session on February 24, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but was advanced in light of the urgency surrounding Kyiv’s financial needs.
