Ukraine Secures Release of 300 Servicemen and Two Civilians in Prisoner Exchange With Russia

Ukraine

Kyiv, March 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Ukraine has successfully brought home 300 servicemen and two civilians from Russia during the second day of a prisoner exchange, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Friday.

According to media reports, the released individuals include privates, sergeants, and officers who had been defending Ukrainian positions on multiple frontlines, including Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kherson.

Photos shared by President Zelenskyy on social media showed the freed prisoners stepping off buses and reuniting emotionally with relatives and fellow soldiers after returning to Ukrainian-controlled territory.

The exchange forms part of ongoing prisoner-of-war swaps between Ukraine and Russia amid the continuing conflict that began following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly emphasized that efforts remain underway to secure the release of all captured Ukrainian personnel and civilians held during the war.
