Brussels, March 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, held high-level discussions in Brussels with Patrick Child, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the environmental sector.
According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium, the meeting underscored prospects for expanding collaboration between Turkmenistan and the European Union in areas of environmental protection and sustainable natural resource management.
Both sides highlighted that the elevation of EU–Central Asia relations to a strategic level has opened new avenues for deepening dialogue and enhancing joint initiatives. Particular emphasis was placed on water resource management, recognized as a critical component for ensuring sustainable development across the region.
The discussions also stressed the importance of institutionalizing cooperation through the development of structured frameworks and road maps aimed at facilitating long-term engagement and practical outcomes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing partnership and expanding constructive dialogue on environmental protection and sustainability.
Separately, on the same day in Brussels, Ambassador Palvanov met with Munir Satouri, Chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI), to discuss matters of mutual interest.
