Malaysia, Indonesia Call for Regional Solidarity and Peaceful Resolution to West Asia Conflict

Indonesia

Kuala Lumpur, March 28, 2026 – The Europe Today: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has described his recent meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta as “meaningful,” stating that it opened constructive avenues for both nations to find common ground on addressing the ongoing West Asia conflict.

In a statement issued on Friday evening, Anwar emphasized that the meeting created space for aligning shared positions amid escalating tensions that are placing increasing strain on global energy security and economic stability.

Highlighting the growing global uncertainty, both leaders underscored the importance of strengthening principled regional solidarity to maintain peace, ensure stability, and enhance economic resilience for the welfare of their populations.

The two sides agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions, safeguarding civilian lives, and fostering conditions conducive to negotiations for a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the conflict.

Prime Minister Anwar also stressed the critical need to ensure the continuity of global supply chains and protect strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, which remains vital for global energy flows.

He further revealed that he has engaged in a series of recent telephone conversations with international leaders to demonstrate solidarity, coordinate positions, and assess the broader global implications of the conflict, particularly concerning energy security and regional stability.

Reaffirming Malaysia’s stance, Anwar stated that the country remains firmly committed to rejecting violence, upholding international law, and urging all parties involved to return to dialogue and pursue a peaceful path forward.
