Rabat

Rabat, April 28, 2026 – The Europe Today:  Morocco’s capital hosted the Annual International English Language Teaching (ELT) Conference under the theme “Human First, Technology Second: Inclusive AI English Language Teaching,” bringing together educators and experts to explore the responsible integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in language education.

The conference attracted teachers, researchers, and academic professionals from across Morocco, including Marrakech, Meknes, Agadir, Oujda, and Kenitra, alongside international participants from the United Kingdom, the United States, Finland, Egypt, and Lebanon.

The event provided a timely platform to address emerging challenges in English language teaching, with a strong focus on the growing role of AI in modern classrooms. From the outset, the gathering highlighted collaboration among primary and secondary school educators, university faculty, and researchers.

Discussions centered on a shared objective: integrating AI into education in a manner that is both effective and ethically responsible. Participants emphasized the need to move beyond the debate on whether students should use AI, instead focusing on how it can be utilized constructively.

Lhoussine Qasserras, chair of the conference, underscored the importance of maintaining human values at the core of technological advancement. He noted that AI should not be viewed as a replacement for teachers but rather as a tool to support and enhance their work.

The conference also featured practical workshops and presentations, offering educators actionable strategies to adapt to technological changes, incorporate AI tools into teaching practices, and improve student outcomes.

David Squirrel, Business Development Manager and Academic Consultant at Hamilton House Publishers UK, highlighted the importance of critical thinking, stating that students must be trained to use AI tools carefully and responsibly.

Overall, the Rabat conference delivered a constructive dialogue on the future of education, reinforcing the view that AI, when applied thoughtfully, can enhance teaching and learning while preserving the central role of educators.
