Rabat, May 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Morocco’s parliamentary diplomacy continues to gain momentum as senior officials seek to elevate ties with European institutions. On Tuesday, Vice-President of the Chamber of Councillors Lahcen Haddad held high-level talks in Rabat with a delegation from the European People’s Party (EPP) within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The meeting, which included key Moroccan legislative leaders Abdeslam Lebbar and Allal Amraoui, focused on advancing the long-standing and advanced relations between Morocco and the European Union.
Toward a Structured and Balanced Partnership
According to an official statement, the discussions aimed to transition beyond traditional exchanges into a more structured framework. Both sides emphasized the need for a partnership based on shared responsibility and aligned priorities.
Lahcen Haddad highlighted Morocco’s role as a reliable regional leader, noting that effective partnerships must rest on “balance, mutual commitment, and joint investment in stability.”

The delegation and Moroccan officials addressed several pressing political and socio-economic challenges requiring closer coordination:

- Energy Transition: Collaborating on legislative expertise to meet global environmental shifts.
- Legislative Exchange: Strengthening oversight practices and the exchange of expertise between the Moroccan Parliament and European bodies.

Members of the EPP delegation commended Morocco’s ongoing experience in political reform and legislative development. They reaffirmed their commitment to expanding dialogue mechanisms with the Chamber of Councillors to support the broader Morocco-EU strategic partnership.
