Islamabad, May 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: H.E. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, paid a courtesy call on Musadik Malik in Islamabad, where the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation on climate-related initiatives.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on joint efforts for climate mitigation and adaptation, while also emphasizing the urgent need for climate financing to address loss and damage faced by developing nations.
Ambassador Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba briefed the Federal Minister on Ethiopia’s preparations for hosting COP32 in Addis Ababa from November 8 to 19, 2027. He informed that Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Gedion Timothewos, will serve as President-Designate of the summit.
The Ambassador said the global climate conference is expected to bring together around 80,000 participants, including heads of state, diplomats, climate experts, and more than 3,000 media personnel from across the world.
He also extended an invitation to Pakistan’s leadership to participate in the summit and proposed a “Green Corridor” initiative aimed at linking Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative with Pakistan’s environmental programmes to establish a model of South-South cooperation to be showcased during COP32.
Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik commended Ethiopia’s transition toward a low-carbon economy through renewable energy initiatives and underscored the importance of launching a knowledge-exchange programme to support sustainable development across the Global South.
The Minister assured the Ethiopian Ambassador of Pakistan’s full support in strengthening bilateral ties and aligning thematic priorities to ensure a successful and inclusive COP32 summit in Addis Ababa.
