Azerbaijan, European Union Discuss Energy Cooperation and Regional Stability in Baku Talks

Baku, May 21, 2026 – The Europe Today: Jeyhun Bayramov held talks on May 20 with a delegation led by Olof Skoog to discuss the future of Azerbaijan-European Union relations, regional security, and the ongoing normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to officials, the meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union across a range of sectors, including energy security, transport connectivity, and green energy development.

Both sides underlined the importance of strengthening political dialogue and expanding practical cooperation. Particular attention was given to Azerbaijan’s growing contribution to Europe’s energy security, with discussions covering renewable energy projects, energy efficiency initiatives, and electricity exports.

The two sides also highlighted the importance of developing regional transport and communication infrastructure to diversify connectivity routes and enhance the region’s economic potential.

During the talks, officials exchanged views on ongoing negotiations over a new bilateral agreement and the Partnership Priorities document between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

Regional security issues and post-conflict developments were also discussed, including efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and advancing the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Minister Bayramov briefed the visiting delegation on reconstruction and restoration work underway in the liberated territories, as well as challenges posed by landmines in the affected areas.

Olof Skoog, in turn, shared his impressions following his recent visit to the liberated territories and reaffirmed interest in continued engagement on regional peace and stability initiatives.

The meeting also included discussions on other bilateral and international matters of mutual interest.
