President Rahmon Signs Amnesty Law

Dushanbe, June 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, on June 16, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of Tajikistan and exercising his constitutional authority, submitted the draft Law “On Amnesty” to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and signed it following its adoption.

The adoption of the Law “On Amnesty” reflects the humanitarian policy of President Emomali Rahmon, aimed at enabling convicted individuals to be rehabilitated, reunite with their families, and reintegrate into productive social and economic life.

According to official information, the amnesty applies to a total of 18,038 convicted persons. Of these, 11,305 individuals will be released from places of detention and other non-custodial penalties, while the remaining sentences of 6,733 persons will be reduced.

The law includes special provisions for women and minors. Out of 507 women serving sentences, 248 will be released, while the sentences of 259 will be reduced. Among 134 minors, 99 will be released from detention, and the sentences of 35 will be reduced.

The provisions of the amnesty also extend to individuals whose cases are currently under judicial proceedings, investigation, or verification.

Authorities have been instructed to ensure full implementation of the law within two months and to submit a report to the President upon completion. The legislation further mandates local executive bodies and relevant state institutions to facilitate the reintegration of released individuals by providing employment opportunities, enrolling minors in educational institutions, and maintaining a unified registry of beneficiaries.

The Law “On Amnesty” will be officially published in the national press.
