New York, June 19, 2026 – The Europe Today: United Nations General Assembly Resolution 80/262, titled “The Role and Importance of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development,” initiated by Turkmenistan, has been officially published in all six official languages of the United Nations.
According to the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, the publication marks the completion of the formal process of finalizing the document following its adoption by the UN General Assembly and ensures its broad dissemination among all UN Member States.
The resolution was adopted by consensus at the initiative of Turkmenistan and represents a significant milestone in the international recognition of neutrality as a tool for promoting peace and stability. It is the first United Nations document adopted under a separate General Assembly agenda item specifically dedicated to neutrality.
The resolution underscores the growing importance of neutrality in supporting international peace, security and sustainable development. It also introduces a number of practical initiatives aimed at strengthening preventive diplomacy, mediation efforts and international cooperation under the framework of the United Nations.
Turkmenistan, which maintains a policy of permanent neutrality recognized by the United Nations, has consistently promoted dialogue, peaceful conflict resolution and multilateral cooperation as key principles of international relations.
The adoption and publication of Resolution 80/262 reaffirm the international community’s support for the constructive role that neutrality can play in addressing global challenges and fostering conditions conducive to sustainable development and regional stability.
The document is expected to serve as an important reference for Member States and international organizations seeking to advance peaceful diplomacy, conflict prevention and cooperative approaches to global governance under the auspices of the United Nations.
