Jakarta, June 23, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade on Tuesday highlighted continued progress in the country’s industrial downstreaming strategy following the export of fabricated structural steel worth US$216,000 to Canada.
The shipment, produced by PT Trimitra Fabrikasi Engineering (TFE), was dispatched as part of the June 2026 export period and underscores Indonesia’s growing capability to manufacture sophisticated, globally competitive industrial products.
Director General for National Export Development Fajarini Puntodewi said the export reflects the country’s success in moving beyond raw material exports toward higher-value manufacturing through advanced engineering and precision fabrication.
“The Trade Ministry strongly supports efforts to increase exports of high-value-added manufactured products,” Puntodewi said in a statement issued in Jakarta. “We hope this shipment encourages more companies to expand exports of value-added products.”
According to Puntodewi, structural steel fabrication represents an important step in Indonesia’s downstreaming agenda, which seeks to enhance domestic value creation, generate employment opportunities and strengthen the manufacturing sector’s contribution to national exports.
The shipment comes amid improving trade performance for Southeast Asia’s largest economy. Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports reached US$87.74 billion during January–April 2026, marking a 6.28 percent increase from US$82.56 billion recorded in the same period last year.
Iron and steel remained among the country’s leading export commodities, generating US$9.61 billion in export earnings during the first four months of 2026. In 2025, Indonesia’s iron and steel exports totaled US$29.76 billion, reflecting an average annual growth rate of 5.61 percent between 2021 and 2025.
Puntodewi noted that exports of structural steel fabrication products reached US$39.68 million during January–April 2026 and have recorded a 6.08 percent growth trend over the past five years.
The ministry said the positive performance demonstrates sustained international demand for Indonesian steel fabrication products, with PT TFE successfully expanding its presence in higher-value markets, including Canada.
