Vienna, June 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: Tajikistan’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda, held a series of meetings with senior officials of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna on Monday to discuss expanding cooperation in digitalization, innovation, and sustainable industrial development.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Abdurahmonzoda met with Providence Mavubi, Executive Director and Acting Director of UNIDO’s Directorate for Innovation in the Sustainable Development Goals and Economic Exchange. The talks focused on enhancing cooperation in the digitalization of Tajikistan’s free economic zones, as well as promoting investment and innovative entrepreneurship.
The two sides explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in fostering technological advancement and creating favorable conditions for innovation-driven economic growth.
On the same day, the Tajik minister also held discussions with Xiong Zhou, Deputy Director General and Executive Director of UNIDO’s Directorate for Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Industrial Development. Their meeting focused on ongoing initiatives and technical cooperation in industrial development, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and other related sectors.
During the talks, Abdurahmonzoda highlighted Tajikistan’s commitment to modernization and sustainable economic growth, noting that under the leadership and support of President Emomali Rahmon, the country is entering a new stage of development.
He emphasized that industrialization, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and the green economy have been identified as key priorities of Tajikistan’s economic strategy and are central to the government’s long-term development agenda.
The meetings underscored the importance of continued partnership between Tajikistan and UNIDO in advancing innovation, strengthening industrial capacity, and supporting sustainable economic development.
