Dushanbe, June 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Tajikistan has successfully concluded the project titled “Strengthening Tajikistan’s Capacity to Access and Utilize Climate Finance,” implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in partnership with the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the Committee for Environmental Protection, the project’s closing ceremony brought together representatives of government institutions, the private sector, civil society, international organizations, and experts to review its achievements, exchange experiences, and discuss future opportunities for expanding climate finance in the country.
Officials highlighted that the initiative strengthened the knowledge and skills of 120 specialists, including 50 women, in the field of climate finance and the financing mechanisms of the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
As part of the project’s key achievements, the first regional concept note for the Green Climate Fund, titled “Climate-Resilient Landscapes in Central Asia,” was developed and approved. The initiative covers Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan and aims to enhance regional cooperation in climate resilience.
The project also facilitated the establishment of a National Climate Finance Platform and a digital Knowledge Management System (KMS), aimed at improving coordination, information sharing, and access to climate finance opportunities.
Authorities said the project’s outcomes are expected to strengthen Tajikistan’s capacity to attract international climate financing and support the country’s long-term environmental sustainability and climate resilience goals.
