Ashgabat, July 1, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, held a farewell meeting with United Nations Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Dmitry Shlapachenko, to review bilateral cooperation and discuss prospects for expanding collaboration in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting, held on June 30, focused on the current state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations system, as well as opportunities to further strengthen their longstanding partnership across a range of development priorities.
During the talks, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov commended Shlapachenko for his significant contribution to enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN system throughout his tenure. He highlighted the Resident Coordinator’s role in advancing joint programmes and projects aimed at promoting the country’s socio-economic development and supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Meredov also extended his best wishes to Shlapachenko for success in his future professional endeavors, expressing confidence that his continued work would further contribute to strengthening international cooperation.
The Turkmen foreign minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening its multifaceted partnership with the United Nations, describing the organization as a key international partner in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.
For his part, Dmitry Shlapachenko expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for the support and cooperation extended to him during his mission, while acknowledging the constructive engagement between the country and the United Nations.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining close cooperation and advancing shared development objectives through continued engagement between Turkmenistan and the UN system.
