France Hails Morocco Economic Partnership as Model for Africa

Morocco

Paris, July 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: France’s Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Attractiveness, Nicolas Forissier, has described the economic partnership between France and Morocco as a model for the rest of Africa, highlighting record bilateral trade, expanding investments and growing cooperation in strategic sectors.

Speaking at the French-Moroccan Economic Day in Paris on Wednesday, Forissier said the relationship had evolved into an “exceptional economic partnership” founded on a shared vision that international trade can generate sustainable growth and create opportunities for both nations.

Addressing around 300 business leaders, investors and public officials, the minister said bilateral trade exceeded €15 billion (MAD 150 billion) in 2025, more than doubling in less than a decade. He reaffirmed France’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation with Morocco through a mutually beneficial partnership that supports the growth of both economies.

Forissier noted that Morocco continues to advance its industrialisation, economic diversification and modernisation while France remains an important market for Moroccan exports. He also highlighted the expanding presence of French companies in the Kingdom, citing Safran’s €600 million investment in a new manufacturing facility in Casablanca as a strong example of France’s long-term confidence in Morocco’s economy.

The minister said France remains Morocco’s largest foreign investor, while Morocco has become the leading African investor in France. He called for further expanding bilateral cooperation through increased trade, reciprocal investments and joint economic projects.

Emphasising the importance of human capital, Forissier urged greater investment in education, skills development, youth mobility and professional training, saying sustainable economic partnerships should benefit future generations as well as businesses.

He identified renewable energy and green hydrogen among the most promising areas for future cooperation, noting that both countries are implementing an ambitious new economic agenda launched following French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Morocco in October 2024 at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.

The strengthening of economic relations follows France’s decision in 2024 to officially recognise Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara, a move that marked a significant milestone in bilateral ties and opened the way for broader cooperation in infrastructure, energy, transport, industry and investment.

Since then, Morocco and France have concluded several strategic agreements, while French companies have shown increasing interest in expanding their operations across the Kingdom, including in the southern regions, reflecting growing confidence in Morocco’s long-term economic prospects.

The French-Moroccan Economic Day was jointly organised by the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Moroccan Embassy in France, in partnership with the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco (CFCIM), and Business France, with the aim of further strengthening trade and investment between the two countries.
