Ashgabat, July 3, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan has commissioned a new water flow control facility in Ashgabat to enhance the capital’s domestic and drinking water supply, state media reported on Wednesday.
The facility, constructed by Interbudmontazh under a contract awarded by the Ashgabat municipality, has a water throughput capacity of 181 cubic metres per second and is designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of the city’s water distribution system.
According to the report, all operations at the facility are fully automated, with water flow and operating conditions monitored through a digital control system. The project also included the construction of a dispatch centre, underground water reservoirs, a pumping station and an electrical substation.
The dispatch centre has been equipped with a diesel generator to ensure uninterrupted operations and is connected to the communications network of the Garagumderya association for integrated system management.
On the same day, authorities also inaugurated Pumping Stations No. 21 and No. 22 in the Geoktepe district of Ahal Province as part of efforts to modernize the country’s irrigation infrastructure.
The new pumping stations will facilitate digitally managed water-saving irrigation across 6,198 hectares of agricultural land. The facilities are also equipped with solar panels to support the continuous operation of irrigation equipment and improve energy efficiency.
The newly commissioned projects form part of Turkmenistan’s broader efforts to modernize water management infrastructure, strengthen water security, and promote the efficient use of water resources through advanced digital technologies and renewable energy solutions.
