Hanoi, July 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: Vietnam imported diamonds worth approximately US$121.5 million (nearly VNĐ3.2 trillion) during the first six months of 2026, reflecting continued strong demand for precious stones, according to the latest data released by the Department of Customs under the Ministry of Finance.
India remained Vietnam’s largest supplier of diamonds, exporting stones worth US$63.2 million during the January–June period. The shipments accounted for approximately 52 percent of Vietnam’s total diamond import value, reaffirming India’s dominant position in the country’s diamond trade.
Belgium ranked as the second-largest supplier with imports valued at nearly US$18 million, while Israel emerged as Vietnam’s third-largest source of diamonds. Imports from Israel exceeded US$9.1 million in the first half of the year—more than double the total value recorded for the whole of 2025—highlighting rapidly expanding bilateral trade in the sector.
Botswana also remained a significant supplier, with diamond exports to Vietnam valued at US$7.7 million during the six-month period.
Meanwhile, imports from Thailand and Hong Kong (China) represented a relatively small share of Vietnam’s diamond market. Diamond imports from Thailand reached approximately US$5.1 million, accounting for about 4.2 percent of the total, while shipments from Hong Kong (China) stood at US$2.8 million, or around 2.3 percent of overall imports.
According to the Department of Customs, Vietnam imported diamonds worth a total of US$241.2 million in 2025. The latest figures indicate that the country has already reached roughly half of last year’s import value during the first six months of 2026, reflecting sustained activity in the domestic jewellery and gemstone industry.
