From newsrooms and correspondents across Brussels, Edinburgh, Islamabad and Istanbul, The Europe Today reports on a world in which the questions that matter — energy security and climate transition, connectivity and trade corridors, migration, technology governance, diplomacy and conflict — refuse to stay within a single capital or a single continent. Reporting on that world credibly requires more than presence. It requires judgement: about which stories deserve attention, whose voices belong in them, what constitutes sufficient evidence, and where the line falls between analysis and advocacy.
The Editorial Board is where that judgement is exercised. It sets the publication’s editorial direction, guards its independence, upholds its standards of accuracy and fairness, and is answerable to readers for the result.
What the Board Is Responsible For
Editorial direction. The Board determines the publication’s coverage priorities and the perspective it brings to them — internationalist in outlook, rigorous in method, and committed to reporting the Pakistan, Global South and Eurasia with the same seriousness routinely afforded to Western capitals.
Independence. Editorial decisions at The Europe Today are made on editorial grounds. Commercial, political and institutional interests do not determine what is covered or how it is framed, and the Board’s standing responsibility is to keep that separation intact.
Accuracy and accountability. Facts are verified before publication, sources are attributed, and errors — when they occur — are corrected openly rather than quietly. The Board maintains the standards by which that happens and reviews the cases where it did not.
Fairness and plurality. On contested questions, The Europe Today aims to represent the substance of competing positions rather than a caricature of the ones it finds least congenial. Opinion is clearly labelled as opinion. Analysis carries the name of the person making the argument.
Institutional partnership and reach. The Board oversees the publication’s engagement with universities, research institutions, diplomatic missions and international organizations — relationships that widen the range of expertise available to readers while remaining subordinate to editorial independence.

Muhammad Ali Pasha
Owner & Patron-in-Chief
Muhammad Ali Pasha is the founder and Patron-in-Chief of The Europe Today and of The Gulf Observer, and Chairman of “The Gulf Observer Research Forum”. He established both publications on a single conviction: that international affairs are too often narrated to the world’s emerging regions rather than reported from within them, and that a serious independent outlet could do better.
As Patron-in-Chief he sets the publication’s founding values and long-term direction, and is the guarantor of its editorial independence — the person whose responsibility it is to ensure that commercial and political pressure never reaches the newsroom. A prolific writer himself, he contributes bylined long-form analysis on international relations, diplomacy and regional affairs to both titles, and represents The Europe Today in its engagements with governments, diplomatic missions, research forums and international media institutions.
Malik Muhammad Shafiq
Chief Executive Officer
Malik Muhammad Shafiq leads The Europe Today as Chief Executive Officer, with responsibility for the publication’s strategy, operations and institutional growth across its Brussels, Edinburgh, Islamabad and Istanbul presence.
His remit covers the practical foundations on which credible journalism depends: building and sustaining the editorial and commercial teams, developing the publication’s international network of correspondents and contributors, expanding its readership and digital reach, and securing the resources that allow independent reporting to continue. Within the Editorial Board he brings an operational perspective to editorial planning — translating the publication’s ambitions into the structures, partnerships and capacity required to deliver them, while maintaining the firm separation between the commercial side of the enterprise and editorial decision-making.
Dr. Wazir Zada Khan
Director Strategic Affairs
Dr. Wazir Zada Khan is Dean and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Wah, with deep expertise in artificial intelligence, automation and digital transformation, and twenty-two years of experience in strategic planning and problem-solving.
At The Europe Today he directs the publication’s long-term strategic vision, with a particular focus on how emerging technology reshapes both what journalism must cover and how it is produced. He leads the integration of technology into the publication’s editorial and organisational planning, and develops the institutional partnerships — academic, research and international — that broaden the depth of expertise available to the newsroom. His academic grounding brings analytical discipline to the Board’s deliberations on technology policy, digital governance and the fast-moving questions of the AI era.
