Jakarta, September 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed Indonesia’s readiness to strengthen its contribution to global food security as the country continues to expand and reinforce its domestic food production capacity.
Prabowo made the remarks while addressing the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India.
The President highlighted Indonesia’s transformation from a major importer of key food commodities into an emerging exporter, describing the development as evidence of the country’s ability to overcome limitations by strengthening national capabilities.
“For years, Indonesia was a major importer of grains, rice, and corn. Now, we have become an exporter and will be able to increase our support for the rest of the world,” Prabowo said, according to an official statement issued on Sunday.
He said the experience demonstrated the potential for BRICS member states to achieve similar progress by integrating their respective strengths and optimising them through cooperation.
Prabowo stressed that interconnected global challenges should not be viewed solely as obstacles, but also as opportunities to deepen cooperation, attract investment, strengthen industries and create employment.
He noted that economic growth would contribute to national resilience when its benefits reach millions of citizens.
According to the President, inclusive development and innovation are therefore essential to strengthening the collective capabilities of BRICS countries.
In the BRICS context, Prabowo pointed out that member states possess complementary resources, production capacities and economic strengths that could be combined to generate greater added value.
He observed that BRICS already constitutes an interconnected supply chain and emphasised the need to link and optimise the existing strengths of its members.
As a concrete measure, Prabowo proposed joint industrialisation among BRICS countries to maximise their shared resources and productive capacities.
“Let us pursue joint industrialisation and optimise the resources and capacities we share,” he said.
The proposal reflects Indonesia’s broader emphasis on strengthening economic cooperation, enhancing productive capacity and ensuring that development generates tangible benefits for people across BRICS member states.
