Jakarta, October 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called on the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to strengthen their professionalism in serving the nation and responding to an increasingly complex global security environment.
The president made the remarks during a briefing attended by around 800 senior TNI and Polri officers at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman said.
Dudung said the briefing also emphasized the importance of strengthening personnel capacity, with Prabowo stressing that education and training programs should be aligned with emerging threats and evolving security challenges.
According to the minister, the president highlighted new forms of threats, including hybrid warfare and the growing use of drones, while underscoring the need to enhance the professionalism and capabilities of military and police personnel through appropriate education and training.
Dudung also conveyed Prabowo’s emphasis on merit-based recruitment, saying that selection systems should provide equal opportunities to candidates who possess the required capabilities, including individuals with certain physical limitations.
“Therefore, candidates who wear glasses and aspire to join the military or the police should be given opportunities, provided they are intelligent,” Dudung said.
The president also expressed appreciation to the TNI and Polri for their continued contributions to the country, particularly their support for government programs aimed at strengthening food and energy security and maintaining national security.
Earlier, Prabowo said he had intentionally invited senior officers ahead of the second anniversary of his administration to brief them on the current situation facing Indonesia.
“I deliberately invited senior officers here ahead of the second anniversary of my administration. I want to present an overview of the conditions we are facing as a nation and as a state,” he said.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Polri Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto also attended the briefing. Both regarded the forum as an opportunity to receive the president’s directives concerning their respective institutions’ role in serving the nation.
