Azerbaijan

Baku, October 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan has no intention of seeking revenge against Armenia, but achieving lasting peace between the two countries will require further efforts, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, has said.

Speaking at a special session titled “The Language of Peace and Combating Disinformation,” Hajiyev stressed the importance of addressing Azerbaijan-Armenia relations with honesty while acknowledging the painful memories that remain part of the Azerbaijani people’s collective history.

“We must be honest when speaking about the Azerbaijan-Armenia relations,” Hajiyev said, noting that certain bitter memories could not simply be ignored or erased from public memory.

He added that these experiences had become part of Azerbaijan’s history and culture and needed to be acknowledged when discussing relations between the two neighbouring countries.

According to Hajiyev, Azerbaijan does not intend to pursue revenge. However, he emphasized that considerable work remains to be done to establish enduring peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

His remarks underscored the importance of confronting historical grievances while continuing efforts to build peaceful relations and promote mutual understanding between the two countries.

The comments were reported by Azerbaijan’s state news agency AZERTAC on October 26.
