Valencia, January 14, 2024, The Europe Today: In a remarkable achievement, Kenyan runner Agnes Ngetich shattered the 10km world record in Valencia on Sunday, clocking an astounding time of 28:46.
This remarkable feat, which carved 28 seconds off the previous record, establishes Ngetich as the first woman to complete the distance in under 29 minutes.
Surpassing Yalemzerf Yehualaw’s road mixed race world record set two years ago, Ngetich expressed her elation, stating, “I am so happy. I didn’t expect this world record.”
The 22-year-old, who clinched a team gold medal at the World Cross Country Championships in 2023, had already set the 10 km world record in a women-only race in September, clocking a time of 29:24. In the men’s race, Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo secured victory in Valencia with an impressive time of 26:48.
