Paris St Germain Extends Unbeaten Streak to 13 Games with 2-0 Victory Over RC Lens, Mbappe and Barcola Shine

Paris, January 14, 2024, The Europe Today: In a commanding display, Paris St Germain (PSG), the Ligue 1 leaders, secured a 2-0 away victory against RC Lens on Sunday, extending their unbeaten league streak to 13 games. Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola propelled PSG to 43 points, widening their lead over second-placed Nice to eight points, while Lens occupies the eighth position with 26 points.

Speaking to reporters, PSG coach Luis Enrique emphasized the significance of control in the match, praising the team’s performance in a challenging environment. The victory marked PSG’s first at Lens in a decade.

The breakthrough came from a cohesive team move, with Mbappe setting up Barcola for an easy finish around the half-hour mark. Barcola expressed confidence, crediting his teammates and coach for the growing assurance in his performance.

Lens faced further adversity just before halftime when Jonathan Gradit received a red card for fouling Barcola as he approached the goal. Lens had missed an earlier opportunity to take the lead when Przemyslaw Frankowski’s penalty kick was saved by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Mbappe sealed the win in the 89th minute, capitalizing on a counter-attack and a precise pass from Ousmane Dembele, bringing his league goal tally to 19 for the season. PSG’s next challenge awaits in the French Cup last 32 against US Orleans on Saturday.
