Chelsea Midfielder Enzo Fernandez Optimistic Despite Premier League Struggles

London, February 14, 2024, The Europe Today: Chelsea’s Premier League campaign has faced significant challenges, leaving them 13 points adrift of the final Champions League qualifying spot. However, midfielder Enzo Fernandez remains optimistic about their chances, attributing their renewed hope to a change in attitude within the squad.

Recent defeats to Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers added to the woes of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but a crucial FA Cup victory against Aston Villa and a convincing 3-1 league triumph over Crystal Palace on Monday have provided a glimmer of optimism for the team.

Despite being currently positioned 10th in the league, trailing fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by 13 points, Fernandez expressed the importance of their recent victories. In an interview with ESPN on Tuesday, the Argentine international highlighted the significance of the Crystal Palace win.

“The victory at Crystal Palace is worth a lot to us. Last week we defeated Aston Villa in the FA Cup,” Fernandez stated. “We are changing our attitude above all, and obviously this victory gives us confidence for what follows.”

Reflecting on the ups and downs throughout the season, Fernandez acknowledged the team’s current standing but emphasized the belief in the team’s work and the ongoing improvement.

“Throughout the season, we’ve had ups and downs in the league, and that is why we find ourselves a little far away from the first places. But there is a long way to go; we have trust in our work, in a new team, and day by day we are improving to be able to meet the objective – we want to play in the Champions League next year,” Fernandez added.

Chelsea’s upcoming challenges include a league clash against Manchester City and a showdown with Liverpool in the League Cup final. Despite the obstacles, Fernandez remains hopeful that their changing attitude and recent successes will contribute to a successful push for a Champions League spot in the upcoming season.
