Canberra, June 18, 2024, The Europe Today: The Chinese and Australian governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to restart their strategic economic dialogue, focusing on forward-looking economic issues. The agreement aims to enhance communication and foster practical and effective economic cooperation, according to China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
The signing ceremony, held on Monday, was witnessed by leaders from both countries. Liu Sushe, deputy head of the NDRC, and Jim Chalmers, Treasurer of Australia, represented their respective governments.
In Canberra, Chinese Premier Li Qiang expressed China’s willingness to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Australia at both regional and international levels. During the ninth China-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Li emphasized the importance of opposing camp confrontation and avoiding a “new Cold War.”
This renewed commitment to strategic dialogue marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations and addressing key economic challenges and opportunities.
