Lahore, July 16, 2024, The Europe Today: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of Tony Hemming as the new chief curator on a two-year contract. Hemming, a seasoned professional from Western Australia, will assume his role in Lahore on Wednesday.

Hemming’s immediate responsibilities include preparing pitches for the upcoming five ICC World Test Championship matches against Bangladesh, scheduled for August and September, and England, scheduled for October. He will also oversee pitch preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host from February 19 to March 9.

Tony Hemming replaces Zahid

With nearly four decades of experience, he is a highly respected figure in the cricketing world. His career has seen him work at various iconic cricket grounds in Australia, including Melbourne, Perth, and Tasmania. His expertise extends internationally, having worked in countries such as Bangladesh, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Hemming served as the ICC’s Head Curator from 2007 to 2017 in Dubai, where he oversaw pitch preparations at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, one of Pakistan’s home venues between 2009 and 2019.

Tony replaces Zahid, who began his career with the PCB by joining the Chairman PCB Curators Committee in 2001 and was appointed as Chief Curator in 2004. Zahid resigned from the role in 2020 but was reappointed by former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja in 2021.

The PCB expressed confidence in Hemming’s ability to elevate the standards of pitch preparation and maintenance in Pakistan. His vast experience and proven track record are expected to bring a significant positive impact on the quality of pitches for both domestic and international matches.
