Eighth China-South Asia Expo Concludes with Trade Contracts Exceeding 8 Billion Yuan

Kunming, July 28, 2024, The Europe Today: The eighth China-South Asia Expo concluded on Sunday, achieving a remarkable milestone with domestic and foreign trade contracts worth over 8 billion yuan (approximately 1.12 billion U.S. dollars), as reported by the organizers.

Held in Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, the event saw cumulative online and offline sales surpass 500 million yuan over its six-day duration. The expo featured 15 exhibition halls with diverse themes, including architecture technology, manufacturing, green energy, and modern agriculture.

This year’s expo attracted participation from 82 countries, regions, and international organizations, with over 2,000 companies exhibiting. Notably, nearly half of these exhibitors were overseas companies, representing all countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia.

First inaugurated in Kunming in 2013, the same year China introduced the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-South Asia Expo has since served more than 18,000 domestic and international companies, facilitated trade exceeding 100 billion U.S. dollars, and enabled the signing of over 3,000 projects.

Jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Yunnan provincial government, the expo stands as one of the most significant annual events for economic and trade exchanges between China and South Asian countries.

Official data reveals that the trade volume between China and South Asian countries reached nearly 200 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, double the amount recorded in 2013. This substantial growth underscores the expo’s critical role in enhancing trade relations and economic cooperation in the region.
