Beijing, September 10, 2024, The Europe Today: China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday its readiness to engage in further consultations with the European Union (EU) regarding the ongoing anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). A ministry spokesperson confirmed the development in response to media inquiries, highlighting the complexity and broad implications of the case.
The spokesperson acknowledged the challenges facing China and the EU in reaching a resolution through consultation but emphasized China’s belief that with mutual sincerity, an agreement could be achieved. “As long as the EU shows sincerity and works towards the same goal, the two sides can address each other’s concerns through consultation,” the spokesperson noted.
China reiterated its commitment to working closely with the EU to reach a solution that serves the common interests of both parties while adhering to World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. This, the ministry said, would help promote the stable and sound development of China-EU economic and trade relations.
Since the EU launched its anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese EVs, the Chinese government and its EV industry have remained dedicated to resolving the issue through dialogue. “Although we cannot agree with or accept the EU’s disclosure of the final ruling, we uphold our utmost sincerity and hope to resolve the friction through dialogue and seek a mutually acceptable solution,” the spokesperson added.
The outcome of these consultations will be pivotal in shaping the future of China-EU trade relations, particularly in the burgeoning EV sector.
