Petaling Jaya, September 21, 2024, The Europe Today: Independent men’s doubles shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani triumphed over Indonesia’s Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin to secure a spot in the finals of the China Open.
The world-ranked No. 12 pair had faced a setback just a week prior, losing to the same Indonesian duo in the second round of the Hong Kong Open. However, they showcased remarkable resilience and skill, defeating Fikri and Marthin with a score of 21-14, 24-22 in a competitive 43-minute match held at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Changzhou on Saturday.
This victory marks the duo’s third final appearance of the year, following a runner-up finish at the Asian Championships in April and their recent success at the Japan Open last month.
Goh and Izzuddin will face either their compatriots Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, currently ranked No. 23 in the world, or the homesters He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu, who hold the No. 7 spot, in what promises to be a significant title match on Sunday, September 22.
