Xi Jinping and Joko Widodo Vow to Strengthen China-Indonesia Strategic Cooperation

Beijing, October 14, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China’s commitment to working with Indonesia to enhance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation during a phone conversation with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Monday. Xi emphasized the importance of ensuring the sustainable operation of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and creating further cooperative initiatives to benefit the people of both nations.

Xi praised President Widodo’s significant contributions over the past decade, noting that his eight visits to China and 12 meetings with Xi had opened a new chapter in the bilateral relationship. The two leaders have advanced efforts to build a community with a shared future and established a new pattern of all-encompassing strategic cooperation.

China greatly values Widodo’s role in fostering China-Indonesia relations, Xi said, expressing confidence that the incoming Indonesian government would maintain its friendly approach towards China. He emphasized the potential for further deepening the China-Indonesia community with a shared future.

Looking ahead to the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference next year, Xi highlighted China’s readiness to work alongside Indonesia in upholding the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit. Xi also emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and solidarity among Global South nations to safeguard the interests of developing countries and promote global stability and prosperity.

President Widodo reflected on the strong bond he has built with Xi over the past decade, leading to remarkable progress in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. He thanked China for its contributions to Indonesia’s economic development, citing the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway as a key success of Belt and Road cooperation.

Widodo expressed his confidence that the Indonesia-China relationship would continue to thrive under the leadership of Indonesia’s new government, maintaining strong momentum in mutual growth and cooperation.
