Tokyo, November 9, 2024 – The Europe Today: China and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in the fields of energy conservation and environmental protection at the 17th China-Japan Comprehensive Forum on Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection, held Saturday in Tokyo. The forum, a significant annual event, was co-hosted by China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Ministry of Commerce alongside Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Japan-China Economic Association.
At the event, Zhao Chenxin, Vice Chairman of the NDRC, highlighted China’s achievements in promoting an “ecological civilization” and progressing toward green, low-carbon development. Zhao emphasized that China will continue to enhance its ecological framework, supporting joint efforts on green and low-carbon technologies and bolstering environmental protection initiatives.
Both nations have committed to advancing green, low-carbon development on a regional and global scale. Over 800 representatives from both China and Japan participated in the forum, engaging in five sub-forums covering various aspects of environmental protection and conservation. During the forum, a total of 27 cooperation agreements were signed, underscoring the commitment to mutual growth in green industries.
The China-Japan Comprehensive Forum on Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection, first held in 2006, serves as a critical international cooperation platform. To date, the forum has facilitated the signing of 457 projects, with aims to strengthen sustainable development practices and foster innovative approaches to ecological challenges faced by both nations and the broader global community.
