Vietnam Reaffirms Strategic Partnership with Germany During High-Level Dialogue

Hanoi, November 23, 2024 – The Europe Today: The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) continues to prioritize its strategic partnership with Germany, a key partner in Europe, affirmed Politburo member and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyễn Xuân Thắng. Speaking during his reception for Deputy Chairman of Germany’s Die Linke Party, Maximilian Schirmer, on November 22, Thắng highlighted the significance of deepening ties between the two nations and their political parties.

The visit by Schirmer, aimed at attending the fifth dialogue between the CPV and Die Linke, marks another step forward in fostering mutual understanding and collaboration. Thắng provided an overview of Vietnam’s recent achievements, including the review of its 40-year reform process and preparations for the upcoming 14th National Party Congress. He reiterated Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralism, and proactive international integration.

Enhancing Vietnam-Germany Relations

Thắng praised the results of the dialogue, emphasizing its importance in exchanging theoretical insights and strengthening policy cooperation. Congratulating the newly elected leadership of Die Linke, he called for enhanced solidarity and effective collaboration to promote democracy, social justice, and global stability.

In response, Schirmer reaffirmed Die Linke’s commitment to its partnership with the CPV. He expressed a desire to deepen cooperation and exchanges between the two parties, contributing to the broader Vietnam-Germany friendship and strategic partnership.

Schirmer emphasized that his visit reflects the shared goal of fostering mutual understanding and trust, which are critical to advancing the bilateral relationship.

Key Outcomes of the Fifth Dialogue

The fifth dialogue, co-chaired by Nguyễn Văn Thành, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, and Deputy Chairman Schirmer, focused on critical areas such as party policy formulation, internal election processes, and youth engagement. Both sides shared experiences and perspectives on strengthening their respective party frameworks and governance.

The dialogue was recognized as a significant milestone in fostering closer ties between the CPV and Die Linke, with discussions covering broader Vietnam-Germany cooperation.

Comprehensive Engagement

During their visit, the German delegation engaged with prominent CPV leaders, including Nhân Dân (People) newspaper Editor-in-Chief Lê Quốc Minh and Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union First Secretary Bùi Quang Huy. They also met with officials from various ministries and localities in Hà Nội and Ninh Bình.

The delegation explored Vietnam’s socio-economic development policies, focusing on areas such as labor, agriculture, heritage tourism, and youth affairs. Discussions underscored the shared commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in cultural exchange and economic development.
