Tashkent, November 24, 2024 – The Europe Today: The Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) hosted the third International Conference on Business and Economics, attracting over 30 experts from 13 countries, including Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, and others. The event featured distinguished speakers, including Rector of the University of Westminster, Peter Bonfield, Professor Karen Jackson, and Professor Marco Vivarelli from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan.
A key highlight was the presentation by Obid Hakimov, Director of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, who detailed the outcomes of Uzbekistan’s recent economic reforms. Hakimov underscored how these reforms have significantly improved the nation’s economic landscape and opened avenues for sustainable growth and development.
The conference also explored Uzbekistan’s long-term development strategy, with an emphasis on its economic transformation over the past five years and its ambitions for 2030.
A critical focus of the discussions was Uzbekistan’s progress in building a green economy. The country has already achieved a 35% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. By the end of 2024, Uzbekistan’s total installed renewable energy capacity is expected to reach 7.6 GW, accounting for 18% of total generation. Projections indicate this share could rise to 40% by 2030, marking a significant shift towards sustainable energy.
The event served as a platform for international experts and local policymakers to exchange insights on economic reforms, sustainability, and strategies for fostering global cooperation in business and economics.
